Redhill Station in line for improvements

3:17pm Friday 13th August 2010

Train operator Southern is asking passengers what improvements they would like to see at Redhill Station.

The operator is asking its users for their priorities for improvements as part of a multi-million pound investment at seven of its busiest stations.

Passengers are being asked to choose what they would most like to see happen from a list of eight proposed options.

These include improving the subway at Redhill Station, improving the waiting rooms for platforms one and three, installing a ladies toilet on platform three, and installing customer information screens in the subway and waiting rooms.

Southern says the consultation before it commits to the work will help it to prioritise the improvements.

The start of the work is scheduled for towards the end of the year.

As well as Redhill, the stations being considered for the multi-million pound improvements package are Brighton, Hove, Lewes, Haywards Heath, Three Bridges and Worthing.

Southern’s enhanced stations programme manager, Corinne Sharpe, said: “This is a great opportunity for our passengers to have a say in what and how they would like their stations to be improved.

“We have a number of proposals for each station and, although we won’t be able to do everything, we will try to take account of what our passengers tell us they want the most.”

Among the over-all list of choices for improvements are improved layout of booking halls, improved waiting rooms, better lighting, relocation and improvement of seating, upgrading of toilets, additional cycle spaces, and improved pedestrian routes.
