Breakfast invitation to East Surrey business world
2:33pm Tuesday 31st January 2012
Councillors are calling on business leaders across East Surrey to wake up to saving money and energy by tucking into a free energy efficiency breakfast.
Reigate and Banstead Borough Council is to run the free breakfast in partnership with the Carbon Trust and Surrey Chambers of Commerce at Hartsfield Manor in Sandy Lane, Betchworth, on Thursday, February 9, from 7.30am to 10.30am.
John Jory, borough council chief executive, said: “The council is working to improve energy efficiency and sustainability, including in our own buildings and service operations.
“We have our own Sustainable Energy Strategy, with ambitious targets to cut carbon emissions across the borough.
“Thanks to our energy reduction initiatives, we have made savings of more than £120,000 over the last three years.”
Allen Kay, borough council executive member for clean communities, said: “We are committed to helping the borough to be greener and are running several projects this year to manage community emissions.
“Our events support local businesses to be more environmentally friendly and reduce costs.”
The borough council has stated it is committed to being green and to helping the community to use less energy in businesses, homes and transport.
At the energy efficiency breakfast, topics will include managing and monitoring organisations' energy use, identifying and implementing key energy reduction opportunities and conducting a walk-around survey to identify further opportunities.
Following on from the breakfast event, a free day-long utility management workshop to help businesses decode their utility bills and find areas for savings, will be held at the Harlequin Theatre in Warwick Quadrant, Redhill, on Wednesday, February 29, from 9.30am to 4.30pm.
