11:20am Wednesday 22nd February 2012
A teenager was stabbed in the wrist when he and two friends were confronted by around ten youths in Redhill.
The attack happened in Ladbroke Road, near Redhill railway station, last Wednesday (February 15).
The 17-year-old victim was walking along the road with his two friends when they were approached by the group of youths at about 7.15pm.
A Surrey Police spokesman said the 17-year-old was then stabbed in the wrist with what officers believe was a knife.
The lad was taken to East Surrey Hospital, Redhill, for treatment for the wound, which was not thought to be serious.
The spokesman said a number of items were seized from the scene and were undergoing analysis.
Investigating Officer Detective Constable Darryl Donaghue, said: “We are still in the early stages of investigating this attack and the motivations surrounding it.”
Det Con Donaghue said: “Several lines of enquiry are being followed to catch those responsible and bring them to justice.
“Ladbroke Road is a popular cut-through for commuters leaving Redhill railway station, and is generally a busy area, therefore I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity at the time of the incident to contact us if they can in anyway help with the investigation.”
Police described the suspects in the incident as men aged between 16 and 20 and of various ethnic origins.
The spokesman said two girls were also seen close to the scene and may be connected to the incident.
Reigate and Banstead Neighbourhood Commander, Inspector Richard Haycock, said: “Additional patrols will be put on to reassure members of the public who use this area whether they live, work or use the vicinity for commuting.”
He said: “Officers will be out and about conducting house to house enquiries and speaking to members of the community to address any concerns which they may have.”
